Due to the design of the GENII 3SGTE, the center two cylinders run hotter, and tend to get more air and less fuel. This leads to broken ringlands. We decided to go with the sidefeed Caldina intake manifold in order to combat this problem. The caldina manifold is designed so that the air coming from the throttlebody hits the roof of the manifold and rotates around the back of the manifold before entering the cylinders. The throttlebody is made so the throttle plate opens towards the roof of the intake manifold.

In order to get the manifold to work with our GENII 3SGTE, we had to fill weld, grind, and modify the throttlebody flange. To maximize our returns from the Caldina intake manifold, we will be using the GENIII 3SGTE throttlebody. In order to mimic the Caldina throttlebody functionality, we flipped the GENIII throtttlebody. The throttle cable will route around the drivers side of the MR2, and should work perfectly.
